After a highly successful summer touring the UK with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Alice Jemima announced , ‘Everything Changes’ and revealed a new single video for  ‘Dancing In Love’, which she co-wrote with Sophie Ellis Bextor and producer Simon Byrt.

Alice’s new uplifting single ‘Dancing in Love’, is the second track to be revealed from her much anticipated second album. ‘Dancing In Love’  has an upbeat disco theme with retro synths and funk-infused basslines overlaid by Alice’s sugar -sweet, sultry vocals. The video for ‘Dancing In Love’ stars Alice and is a sequined,  disco-ball themed affair filmed in a karaoke bar in London, where Alice is surrounded by fun party goers.

In her own words Alice describes her new single ‘Dancing in Love’ as “…being about falling in love, and the push and pull of the relationship resembling a dance. Since the release of my debut album two years ago, I’ve moved out of my parent’s home and now share a flat with my boyfriend and so I think this record, like most of the tracks on my new album, reflects a more mature view of love and relationships.”

Alice Jemima released her captivating debut self-titled album in 2017 to much critical acclaim and has achieved over 25-million album streams to date with several of the tracks being placed in adverts for Ralph Lauren, Simple Skincare, Macy’s and Topshop Radio support came from  Radio 1’s Huw Stephens (‘Tip Of The Week’ ) Annie Mac, Sophie Little & Monki and Alice achieved Radio 1 playlisting with her single ‘Dodged a Bullet’. Other supporters included John Kennedy (Radio X) and Tom Robinson (6Music).  Alice has also performed live at  Boardmasters, Bestival Lattitude, The Great Escape and SXSW.

“I recorded over 3 albums worth of music to get to the finished version of ‘Addict’,” says Dub Pistols mastermind Barry Ashworth.  “Every time I finished a song, I would come up with another idea for a track and an artist I wanted to work with. It’s been incredible to collaborate with all the legends that I have on this record, but it’s also the new emerging talent such as Natty Campbell and Gardna that have really given me new enthusiasm.  The album has taken two years to record but has been 25 years in the making.”

Singles – Quotes from Barry Ashworth:

    Stand Together

the Rhoda Dakar collaboration was penned “about how far we’ve come, but how much further we still have to go when it comes to the war against racism”.

The single’s accompanying video intersperses new clips with footage from the civil rights movements of the 1950s and ’60s. “To watch what is going on over in America and how racism is still so seismic in our society is devastating,”

    Dark Days Dark Times

“This was one of the first songs recorded for the album, drawing on the problem of gang related gun crime from a disenfranchised youth and the county line gang issue. All the while, highlighting how austerity and its effects, like closing youth clubs etc,  has driven kids onto the streets and into these gangs.”

Born in Oklahoma, raised in Paris, living in New York City, assistant to a Nobel Prize Winner, licensed New York City tour guide and Murder Mystery business owner, JW Francis is the newest signing to Sunday Best Recordings. His brand of lo-fi, utterly irresistible bedroom dream-pop takes its lead from the city JW lives in, with echoes of Jonathan Richman, The Velvet Underground and the lo-fi sound New York has been inspiring for decades.

    The first single to be released by Sunday Best is the glorious and appropriately titled ‘New York’, serving as the perfect introduction to JW Francis, with its infectious guitar lines, lo-fi vocals and accompanying retro visual;

“I’m a licensed tour guide of NYC. This place has taught me so much. I wanted to write an homage, but also express how I feel, which is mostly contained in the first line of the song ‘I’ll sleep when dead’”

The DIY mentality is key throughout JW Francis’ output and he’s been working hard at it over the last 2 years, playing a total of 72 shows across 19 different states and 5 different countries – the unusual factor being that having asked fans in each city to form a different backing band for him at every show, he now has bands in L.A, San Francisco, Paris, Glasgow, New York & Costa Rica.

After introducing the character of Papalious Stokely with the ‘L.A. Salami’s Walkabout’ EP, L.A. Salami builds towards the January 31st release of its second chapter, ‘Self Portrait In Sound’, by sharing its lead track ‘We’ll Solve It After’.

‘We’ll Solve It After’ examines a relationship which seems to be doomed from the start. Yet it’s something both partners are more than willing to overlook as they’re caught up in the moment. At the same time, however, there’s the nagging realisation that reality will eventually return with a vengeance. As the song’s insistent hook sighs, “Hey, forget it. We’ll solve it after.”

Whereas the initial EP found Papalious Stokely exploring the dark underbelly of a generic global metropolis, ‘Self Portrait In Sound’ is more introspective. It simmers with angst – losing and lacking love, fading friendships, and trying to redirect those personal failings that you’re irresistibly drawn to. It all comes to a head in the desolate and defeated denouement of ‘Come Back For The Rest Of Me’.

“This EP is a self-portrait of sorts, in sound. Of someone that once was, and who can still be found somewhere,” says L.A. Salami. “Things are forever changing but this was someone at some point, and could still yet be what I become. So I called it the ‘Self Portrait In Sound’ EP.”

While the themes have evolved in ‘Self Portrait In Sound’, so too has the music. It steps beyond the skeletal spoken word of the previous instalment, with one foot in the stripped-back poetry of the Greenwich Village sound and another in the bolder productions of the modern alt-folk scene.

L.A. Salami’s two albums to date, ‘Dancing With Bad Grammar’ (2016) and ‘The City of Bootmakers’ (2018), have seen the London-based artist present a singular vision. His evocative, poetic lyrics span everything from grand existential questions to vignettes of everyday life as well as the affairs and anxieties of modern Britain. As NPR enthused, his “poetry channels the fierceness I first heard in Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited, but with a prowess found in today’s best hip-hop.”

The LP  sees Lookman explore experimental ground, touching on a bit of everything from rap to psychedelic folk, and sultry grooves which venture into extended hypnotic jams. This isn’t the music of a virtuoso: it’s explorative, daring, meditative and wild.  Lookman describes the inspiration behind his new album,  “I love the deliberateness, cleanness and colour of modern music, but I also miss the complete chaos of old, like some Captain Beefheart and Velvet Underground records, or even 90s HipHop records with the peaking 808s and static compressed vocals al la Wu Tang, or blues records like Robert Johnson’s. Somewhere in there is the carnival I’ve been searching for. This entire album could very well be a love letter to Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground.”

Lookman began writing poetry at a very early age, which then evolved into writing lyrics and he taught himself the guitar aged 21. Fostered from birth, Lookman was periodically re-united with his birth mother from the age of 5, which he describes as being emotionally confusing, “I find it rears its ugly head consistently in my life, and music became one of the easiest ways to release that pressure valve every so often.”

L.A. Salami’s two albums to date, ‘Dancing With Bad Grammar’ (2016) and ‘The City of Bootmakers’ (2018), have seen the London-based artist present a singular vision. Louis Greenwood and Lawrence Hayes have gained some serious steam in recent years. They’ve co-crafted cuts for artists across a spectrum of genres. From studio sessions with Grammy-winning creative giant Skrillex, to Ninja Tune’s Park Hye Jin, and alt-indie enigma Chelou. Firmly establishing themselves as broad respected producers. Releases have come through Fort Romeau’s Cin Cin Records and Australian-based Beats Of No Nation and Silver Bear’s vast catalogue is the work of the discerning duo as they took the helm as A&Rs back in 2017, a label for tastemakers alike.

Electronic music has the magic ability to conjure up feelings and visuals and ‘Back To The Old Days’ does just this. It wasn’t crafted overnight. It started in Berlin, was finished in LA, and encapsulates the euphoric rave experiences that London gave the boys during their formative years.

It also nods back to WAC Arts College in London where Louis and Lawrence were tutors, working with creative, talented youths who were seeking something that mainstream education didn’t offer. The track cleverly features a vocal rip from an interview with one of the students airing his experiences.

Penchant for melodies, bouncy, emotive, with influences that can be traced to breaks, jungle and rave breakdowns ‘Back To The Old Days’ is the immersive escapism that we all love and need.

London duo Wayward bring their deftness in producing bold and emotive cuts to a revealing debut album Waiting For The World. A leap in artistry, it showcases what Louis Greenwood and Lawrence Hayes are capable of when calling upon intimate memories and feelings, with a diverse body of work that mixes mellowed electronica with breaks, DnB, jungle and techno.

An ode to records like Burial’s seminal opus Untrue, a constant source of inspiration which opened doors in the duo’s minds that electronic music can conjure up feelings and visuals. This realisation sent them off on the same tangent in their music, as Waiting For The World demonstrates.

Wayward explains – “This album is our first full length and it feels like we’re making the music we should be. You don’t get a shot at a debut album twice, and we wanted to put out a sonically diverse record that is as energising as it is emotionally-evocative with atmospheric tracks to chill to, and ones with the energy of club impact. We focussed on conjuring specific times, moods and places to bring through reinterpretations of memories and moments not just for us, but for anyone listening”

In the studio they have a history of delivering high quality productions for artists across a spectrum of genres, including Grammy-winning creative giant Skrillex, Ninja Tune’s Park Hye Jin, and Camden singer/songwriter Chelou.

This album, however, comes on the other side of a creative block which had Louis feeling lost. A solo clubbing experience in Tokyo was the big breakthrough he needed and he returned feeling hugely inspired, laying down a thumping brew of techno, hip hop and soul in the studio. A global lockdown gave the pair a chance to journey back through music they had made across the past two years in London, Berlin, and Los Angeles, where they spent time at a writing camp with iconic Detroit producer Amp Fiddler while working on Chelou’s album.

A turnaround in creative steam and Waiting For The World started to take shape.

‘Oath’, named after the club in Tokyo, chases down the sounds Louis heard within its walls. Flickers of introspective melancholy and euphoria can be heard through scintillating synths and wistful keys in tracks like ‘Canvey Island’ and ‘Bright’. Emotive qualities also come through on tracks dedicated to loved ones, such as ‘Jill’ and ‘Casper part 1’.

Thoughtful samples are laced throughout, the most striking within the explosive ‘All A Bit Mad’ where you’ll hear Femi Koleoso (drummer of London Nu Jazz band Ezra Collective), hyping up the crowd at a gig in London. Uplifting from the get go Femi’s MC Style chants overlay the synths and drums Wayward have primed for the reopening of dance floors. The nostalgic first single ‘Back To The Old Days’ encapsulates their years DJing and putting on events in Leeds, curating impressive line-ups with Benji B, DJ EZ and Giles Peterson to name a few.

Friends since the age of 11 and bonded by a lifelong love for music the pair share a studio and live together in North London where they grew up influenced by the city. In the ten years Louis and Lawrence have been immersed in the scene they’ve DJ’d across the UK, wider Europe, the US and Australia; curated a series of revered club nights in the UK; released a stack of notable releases through Cin Cin Records, Beats Of No Nation and finally found a home in Silver Bear Recordings, a label they’ve been A&Rs for since 2017, steadily crafting its sound, signing regular music from the likes of O’Flynn, and now the home for their debut album
