As a producer, Ragz Originale has worked with artists such as Chip, Skepta (three songs on Mercury award-winning album Konnichiwa, most notably ‘Shut Down’, were produced by Ragz) and Krept and Konan. This is alongside working with his fellow artists in the Mini Kingz collective, BenjiFlow, Oscar #worldpeace and CARTAE.
Ragz’s transition from producer to artist was ignited after the realisation that as a producer, you could go a year without profiting from your skills while waiting for other people to put out your work.
Released in the Autumn of 2018, Ragz’ debut solo project ‘Nature’ featured 10 tracks and was routed in alternative R&B and rap sounds, featuring Georgia, CARTAE and Ji Nilsson.
Ragz’s single ‘4am’ with Eliza teases what will be on offer on his now-released ‘txt ur x’ EP, which is said to resemble a “succinct, disciplined document of independence, featuring a hand-picked list of guests”. This EP will also feature Ragz Originale’s new song, ‘Jennifer’. Read our review of the project here.
The opening of ‘4am’ is electric, where we immediately hear Eliza’s cool vocals before transitioning into Ragz’s rapping. This continues throughout the entire song, where we hear Ragz and ELIZA’s voices flowing effortlessly back and forth between each other. The production (done by Ragz himself) is layered and intricate, forming a smooth and sexy beat. The music video is sleek and features appearances from some of the Mini Kingz crew. A nice contrast was that Eliza was surrounded by darker lighting in shades of blues, red and purple, whereas Ragz was in much brighter lights with pops of colour such as yellow.
