Cass McCombs has shared a new single, “Priestess,” marking his first new music since re-signing with Domino Records. Priestess is an elegy, a statement of gratitude, and yet another gem of McCombs’ devastatingly poignant songwriting. Inspired by his rekindled working relationship with Domino and the revisitation of his early material through last year’s reissue campaign, McCombs returned to basics in crafting the song.
The single arrives alongside McCombs’ NPR Tiny Desk Concert debut, where he performed Priestess along with career-spanning highlights, including one of his most widely beloved songs, “County Line” (WIT’S END), “Robin Egg Blue” (Humor Risk), and “Opium Flower” (Not The Way EP). For the performance, McCombs (guitar, keyboard) was joined by Brian Betancourt (bass), Frank LoCrasto (keyboards), and Austin Vaughn (drums).
