Big Thief have announced their sixth studio album, Double Infinity, along with its lead single and opening track, “Incomprehensible.” The album follows their Grammy-nominated 2022 release, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, and is set for release on September 5th via 4AD.
To bring Double Infinity to life, the trio spent three weeks biking through frozen streets between Brooklyn and Manhattan, gathering each day in the warm, wood-paneled studio at Power Station. There, joined by a community of musicians—including Alena Spanger, Caleb Michel, Hannah Cohen, Jon Nellen, Joshua Crumbly, June McDoom, Laraaji, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Mikey Buishas—they played together for nine hours a day. The sessions were recorded live with minimal overdubs, capturing the raw energy of their improvisations and shared discoveries. Longtime collaborator Dom Monks produced, engineered, and mixed the album.
To celebrate the release, Big Thief will launch the first leg of their Somersault Slide 360 Tour. Marking their first U.S. shows in over a year, the tour begins in September with stops at iconic venues including Berkeley’s Greek Theatre, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, Boston’s MGM Music Hall, New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, and their debut show in Mexico at Teatro Metropolitan.
