Singer-songwriter Alex Izenberg has announced the release of his third album, I’m Not Here, out May 20 via Weird World. After the first single “Egyptian Cadillac,” Izenberg unveils his catchy retro-pop title “Sorrows Blue Tapestry” and his music video featuring a real giraffe.
“All my music is a defensive response to my environment which is constantly changing like my thoughts. I wrote ‘Sorrows Blue Tapestry’ for my dog Larks after she died. I realised I was going to die too and I stopped eating meat and started writing songs that were more influenced by my surroundings like acknowledging that we are all rays of the same Sun rather than 6 billion individual spirits, he will always be with you, even if he dies, you can feel it.”
Like his debut album Harlequin (2016), and his ambitious follow-up Caravan Château (2020), this new album follows in the footsteps of Alex Izenberg’s favourite 70s artists such as John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman and Lou Reed. I’m Not Here was recorded at Tropico Studios, produced by Izenberg and Greg Hartunian, and mastered by Dave Cooley at Elysian Masters in Los Angeles. The string and woodwind arrangements made by his collaborator Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors recall the characteristic style of those of Van Dyke Parks.
