London-based Mancunian composer, poet, and activist Alabaster DePlume has announced details of his forthcoming album, A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole, set for release on March 7th via International Anthem.
The 11-song album showcases DePlume’s signature musical touchstones: lush, gentle instrumentals informed by ghostly ancient folk melodies; groove-focused rhythmic explorations serving as a foundation for introspective spoken-word declarations; and sweeping, beautiful string arrangements paired with his trademark vibrato-infused tenor saxophone “whispermoan.”
The single “Oh My Actual Days” offers the first glimpse of the new LP and marks DePlume’s first release of new material since 2022’s acclaimed GOLD (a Pitchfork Best New Music selection) and 2023’s companion album Come With Fierce Grace. The track features DePlume’s distinctive saxophone vibrato and a rich, enveloping soundscape, with Macie Stewart contributing on strings.
