WATCH THE VIDEO FOR 'TRUE THRUSH' - THE NEW SINGLE BY DAN DEACON
Dan Deacon | 18/07/12
'True Thrush' is the first single to be made available from the new Dan Deacon album, 'America'. Both to be released on 27th August 2012 on Domino Records & Publishing.
The video was co-directed by Ben O’Brien and is based on a drawing game popular in the Baltimore art collective Wham City, which is in turn based on the game "telephone". Deacon’s concept for the video is loosely related to the lyrics, and mirrors his use of asymmetrical repetition and evolving patterns. For the video, Dan and Ben filmed a simple 13-second scene. That scene was then shown to the next team. After seeing the video that team had 1 hour to recreate it - characters, props, set, costumes, and actions - as close to exactly as possible from only their memory.
KING CREOSOTE - I LEARNED FROM THE GAELS EP - OUT NOW
25/06/12
Salutations, ye of striking visage and exquisite musical taste!
Come hither and let us unravel this phonograph. Let us tool ourselves up with the following clues:
1) This EP comes courtesy of King Creosote – alias hirsute Fife pop stud Kenny Anderson– and it’s backed by a posse of super hot minstrels that spans a BBC songbird, a northern star and a by gone Iron Maiden moonlighter.
2) These songs were written in the East Neuk of Fife, in the year of our monarch 2010, and it was, says our subject, ‘probably spring.’
3) This vinyl is the product of a Scottish East Coast education: it is borne from the gals, the gales, the Gaels and the guile that derives from a lifetime’s over indulgence thereof.
DIRTY PROJECTORS - SWING LO MAGELLAN - NEW ALBUM RELEASED 9TH JULY 2012
Dirty Projectors | 25/06/12
The Dirty Projectors are to release their 6th album 'Swing Lo Magellan' on 9th July 2012 on Domino Records.
The songs of Swing Lo Magellan are culled from a sprawling twelve months of constant writing and recording in a weird house in Delaware County, New York (four hours north west of the city). David Longstreth, who produced and mixed, wrote seventy new songs and beats. The band-Amber Coffman (vocals & guitar), Nat Baldwin (bass), Brian McOmber (drums) & Haley Dekle (vocals) - joined him periodically, rehearsing the new music more or less constantly in the house's A-frame attic. The twelve songs of Swing Lo Magellan were winnowed down from about forty finished demos. The finished recordings bear the impress of this informal working style: the album is a collection of moments: accidental, fortuitous, spontaneous. The performance sfeel warm and imperfect. Unguarded intimacy is some what of a new look for this band, and it turns out it's a very good look.
